Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Serbia

The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Serbia is a significant diplomatic mission that represents the interests of Belarus in Serbia. It is located at Deligradska 13, 11000 Beograd, Serbia1. The embassy can be contacted by telephone on (+381) 11 3616 9381 and by email at serbia@mfa.gov.by.

The current head of the mission is Mr. Valery Brylev, who serves as the Ambassador2. He has held meetings with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vuciс, to discuss the bilateral agenda and the mutual commitment of the two countries to develop friendly interstate dialogue.

The history of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Serbia dates back to December 31, 1991, when the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia recognized Belarus by the decision on the recognition of the former republics of the USSR. Since then, the two countries have maintained strong diplomatic ties, with Belarus establishing an embassy in Belgrade and Serbia reciprocating with an embassy in Minsk.

The diplomatic relations between the two countries have been marked by a commitment to economic and cultural cooperation. A significant stimulus for this cooperation has been the visa-free regime that has been in force between Belarus and Serbia since 20003. This has facilitated the development of tourism and cultural exchanges, with Serbian artists regularly participating in the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, Belarus.

The contract-legal basis of cooperation between Belarus and Serbia includes 20 signed agreements that cover almost all areas of bilateral interests3. These agreements have further strengthened the diplomatic ties between the two countries and have paved the way for increased collaboration in various sectors.

However, the diplomatic relations between the two countries have not been without challenges. Following the 2020 Belarusian presidential election, Serbia signed the Declaration initiated by the European Union rejecting the election results and criticizing the crackdown against those protesting. Despite these challenges, the two countries have remained committed to maintaining friendly interstate dialogue.

The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Serbia plays a crucial role in fostering diplomatic relations between the two countries. Through the leadership of Ambassador Valery Brylev and the support of the respective governments, the embassy continues to promote economic, cultural, and political cooperation between Belarus and Serbia.
